Sir John Doddridge (1555-1628), judge and antiquary, was the son of a Barnstaple merchant. Educated at Exeter College Oxford and at the Middle Temple. Member of the Society of Antiquaries. MP for Barnstaple 1588, MP for Horsham (Sussex) 1603-1611. Knighted 1607, Justice of the King's Bench, 25 November 1612. Buried in Exeter Cathedral. Sir John Doddridge or Dodderidge (1555-1628) was the Devonshire lawyer, serjeant-at-law, solicitor-general, M.P., and judge in the Court of Kings Bench who wrote and published extensively on law and history, was a member of the young Society of antiquaries, and in 1630 published a history of Wales, Cornwall, and Chester.
